AFTERCARE

Aftercare is an important part of the healing process in all piercing procedures. Our piercing specialist Bernadette provides detailed care instructions before each piercing is performed.

Having your piercing done by a professional, competent and hygienic piercer is only half the work required for a successful piercing. The other half of a successful piercing is up to you. By using commonsense and our suggested aftercare guidelines, you may even speed up your recommended healing time.

It all starts with clean hands… make sure you wash your hands!

Warm saline soak:
use a ¼ teaspoon of rock salt and dissolve it in to a 250ml cup of boiling water. When the water has cooled down a little, and it is still warm, soak some cotton pads in this solution, and then soak your piercing with the cotton pads. This process will help remove discharge and will also help to remove any stubborn matter that may form around your new piercing. To further help remove any discharge, the same solution may be applied to a Q-tip or a cotton bud.

Please remember that a stronger mix of this solution isn’t necessarily a better mix!

There is no need to turn or spin your jewellery in a new piercing, as this will re-introduce bacteria into your new piercing.

After your piercing that afternoon or evening apply an ice pack or cold compress to relieve the pain and reduce swelling. 10 mins on and 10 mins off the location is a good time frame. Repeat the icing as much as you like but it is only effective in the first day.

The next day, start soaking the piecing in the sea salt solution or apply a saturated gauze twice a day, morning and night for the next 4 weeks and occasionally when lymphatic discharge appears. The dilution should be 1teaspoon of salt to 1 litre of water. Soak the piercing for 5mins then remove discharge with a cotton bud.

If the piercing troubles you after 4 weeks you are welcome to return for advise at Inner vision on the weekends or use a small amount of Iodine provided on the piercing. Iodine should be used sparingly ie once a week when needed.

Please remember you are always welcome to come into the shop for advise or aftercare information.

DO I NEED AN PRE-BOOKED APPOINTMENT?
No. If you already have the artwork, which requires no changes, or you have chosen a pre-drawn design from our studio, an appointment can be made without a consultation. We have the traditional walk-in service on Saturdays and Sundays, which is on a first-in, first-served basis. Custom Tattooing appointments can only be made for week days and must be booked in person with a minimum cash deposit of $100 for small custom or pre-drawn designs, and $200-$400 for large pre-drawn or custom work. This deposit contributes to your final tattoo payment. PLEASE NOTE: Cash deposits are required to secure your appointment time and are non-refundable. Deposits are valid for three months and can be transferred to a new appointment time if a minimum of 48 hours notice is given. Without this notice the deposit will be forfeited. NO EXCEPTIONS! If you decide to change your initial design concept you will be required to leave another deposit. Please note that the deposit you leave does not entitle you to any rights over the drawings the artist prepares for you.
CAN I BRING MY OWN DESIGN OR IDEA?
Of course. Being tattooed is all about self-expression, but make sure you have a firm idea or a selection of reference images for the artist. It allows you to articulate your vision clearly and makes for a productive consultation.
DOES IT HURT?
The level of discomfort varies tremendously and depends on each individual and placement. To ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible make sure you are well-fed, rested and feeling good naturally – the best state of mind to experience the tattoo process. Best to avoid the consumption of alcohol before being tattooed. Celebrate afterwards if need be!
CAN I GET A TATTOO IF I AM UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE?
No. It is illegal to tattoo a person under 18 years of age, in the state of New South Wales. Even with parental consent it is still illegal.
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY NEW TATTOO?
Your tattoo will last a lifetime, however it is fragile in the first few weeks, so care and respect needs to be exercised. Inner Vision has taken the utmost care in ensuring your tattoo is done with precision in a hygienic environment. Now it's your turn! Just follow these simple steps and you should have no problems with your new tattoo: Remove bandage within two to four hours of leaving the studio. Once you have removed the bandage, wash tattoo with mild soap and warm water. Wash the area twice a day to keep the tattoo clean. DO NOT soak in a bath. DO NOT re-bandage your tattoo. Apply a small amount of Bepanthen cream two to three times a day for 10 days. DO NOT expose your new tattoo to: salt water, chlorine water, hot tubs, steam rooms or saunas for at least 10 days. No excessive exercise for 10 days. DO NOT pick at or scratch your new tattoo. DO NOT listen to tattoo experts in bars or on the street for 1 month. Not all advice is good advice. It is advisable to keep your new tattoo out of direct sunlight for at least 30 days. Once your tattoo has completely healed always use high factor sunblock on the area. UV light will prematurely fade your design. Any questions please do not hesitate to call or drop into the studio. We are here seven days a week from 11am to 7pm.
IS IT SAFE?
Yes. At Inner Vision Tattoo and Piercing, every instrument that is used is either single service (all needles are single use and disposed of within Health Department regulations) or ultrasonically cleaned, scrubbed, rinsed, individually bagged and finally autoclave-sterilised. All washes, soaps and disinfecting solutions used are also as per Health Department specifications. To further prevent cross-contamination, all equipment touched between individual clients are protected with disposable plastic covers. The studio has a separate sterilising area with an approved one direction flow method and our autoclave unit is spore-tested and regularly calibrated as per State Health Department guidelines. Inner Vision Tattoo and Piercing checks Health Department updates regularly for the tattoo industry and all changes are implemented. Inner Vision Tattoo and Piercing is Sydney's leading custom body art studio and our sterilisation procedures are second to none.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Cost depends on a number of factors, including size, placement, complexity and style, which all contribute to the final price. For smaller designs we start at a minimum price of $100, however we cannot give quotes to un-sighted designs over the phone. Please drop in to the studio anytime for an accurate price estimate. Quotes and prices listed on pre-drawn designs are estimates only and may vary according to placement and artist.
